The club was formed around 1992 to further the interests of jazz & blues music in Auckland.

The club has a membership of around 250 and has regular club nights every Tuesday evening at the Birkenhead RSA.

Concerts start at 7.30pm and finish at 9.30pm with a break at half time. Meals are available before the concert. Full bar service.

Ample off-street parking. Come early to secure your seating.

Each night features a different local or out of town band.. Sometimes an International star makes an appearance.

Lynfield College Combo

The Auckland Jazz and Blues Club has great pleasure in supporting the Lynfield College Combo with a Benefit Concert for their Australian tour to Melbourne and the Mt Gambier Jazz Festival. This Festival is run by James Morrison and attracts over 2000 students in over 80 different bands from around Australia. They are the first NZ school to attend the Festival.

 

The Lynfield College Combo was highly successful at the 2015 Auckland Jazz and Blues Secondary school competition and their presentation for our Club last December was well received.

 

Last April the Lynfield College Jazz Combo, directed by Paul Norman, travelled down to Tauranga to compete in the National Youth Jazz Festival. The seven piece group played a demanding programme of jazz standards and contemporary tunes and was very successful winning the Most Outstanding Jazz Combo trophy. 

 

Individual students also impressed the judges.

Lyu Kodama (Year 12) won best drummer.

Dylan Goodisson (Year 13) won best trumpet player.

Jake Krishnamurti (Year 13) won best original composition.
