Bon Voyage to Julie Mason & Phil Broadhurst

  • Point Chevalier RSA 1136 Great North Road Auckland, Auckland, 1022 New Zealand (map)

Well known Auckland Jazz musicians Phil Broadhurst & Julie Mason are making their last appearance at the club, prior to their departure for a year in Europe in December 2016.

PHIL BROADHURST is one of NZ's finest jazz pianists, composers, broadcasters and jazz tutors, and has run the Jazz Studies Centre at the NZSM since the year 2000. The first Kiwi to receive the MNZM for services to jazz,  this year Phil won the Tui Jazz Album of the Year Award (for the 4th time) for "Panacea."

PIanist and vocalist JULIE MASON is one of NZ's foremost women in jazz. She has performed all over the globe, including Paris, London, Berlin, The USA, Australia and the South Pacific. She has been a finalist in the Jazz Album of the Year Awards, and recently released her 6th album "Layers of Disguise".

Their concert will also feature a set from the 3 remaining 3rd year students at the NZSM's Massey (Albany) campus. They are vocalists ALLANA GOLDSMITH & KYLIE TODD, and saxophonist THABANI GAPARA. They will perform some 3-part harmony arrangements along with vocalist JULIE MASON. Other ex-students & tutors from the NZSM may also make guest appearances through the evening.

The rhythm section is the very fine ALBERTO SANTARELLI on bass, and Kiwi icon drummer FRANK GIBSON, both former tutors at the NZSM.
