We re-open on 18 January.

Happy holidays everyone.

MIKE WALKER QUARTET and guests - 7-12-21

Photos from this excellent concert have already been posted, but Merv Thomas has created the two photo montages below. Merv wants to acknowledge two very young talented musicians.

They are of course Hank Trenton (double bass) and Sam Swindells (guitar).

A mixture of four superannuitants and two young outstanding musicians produced some wonderful jazz.

What a neat concert it was to open the club up again after being closed for 15 weeks.

SIR HORNBLOWER COMBOVER (MERV THOMAS) - 90th Birthday - 13-7-21

Congratulations to our compere extraordinaire Merv Thomas, known affectionately as Sir Hornblower Combover. Merv carried out his usual compering duties at our club on Tuesday 13 July, the actual day of his 90th birthday. He didn’t want any fuss made of his significant birthday with no special concert as acknowledgement.

As a club, we want to acknowledge Merv’s huge contribution to the Auckland jazz scene over the last seven decades. He is not only a great trombone player, but also a leader in the Auckland jazz scene. There is so much to write about Merv’s musical history, and this is recorded in detail on the AudioCulture website, so do check this out.

Merv’s professional level compering skills are greatly appreciated and admired by us all.

Congratulations once again Merv.

The Annual General Meeting of the AJBC took place this afternoon at the Pt. Chevalier RSA.

Financial members of the club will receive minutes of the meeting, President's Report and the Annual Financial Report.

All existing officers and volunteers are continuing in their roles. We could do with more help to run the weekly concerts. Please contact us if you'd like to volunteer your time.

Our club continues to be in good shape with a wide variety of professional level bands performing, and audience attendance and support is very strong.
