The New Bop Quintet

  • Pt Chevalier RSA 1136 Great North Road Auckland, Auckland, 1022 New Zealand (map)

Where did the word 'bop' come from?  We  all know 'be bop' made famous by Charlie Parker , tho' claimed to be 'invented' by Dizzy Gillespie. Whatever, as it evolved it became one of the main drivers of jazz since the wonderful era of the 50s and 60's. Even here  in far off New Zealand.

"The New Bop Quintet" is going to bring you the best of both 'time worlds' . Musicians you will have heard and enjoyed playing bop numbers that you will have  heard and enjoyed. Think 'So What' , 'Straight No Chaser', ' Greeen Dolphin St', and lots more,   Then playing NZ compositions that owe their  heritage to the 'birth of bop' era.

Introducing 'The New Bop Quintet':

Trumpet - Mike Booth

Saxophone - Pete France

Piano - Kevin Field

Bass Cam Mc Arthur

Drums  - Frank Gibson

We're confident you'll bop -  but don't drop!
