Love Square

Last time these musicians played the hottest Tuesday in Auckland city something truly beguiling unfolded. The melding of acoustic instruments with the unique club-night ambience elevates this music. "Mike and his team create this environment....a beautiful audience, great cooking in the kitchen and friendly bar... I mean, we'd better bring our A-game to this legendary joint." Says band leader Nick Atkinson. "Often you can hear a pin drop, other times I hear it can get a little rowdy with the crowd whooping and carrying on. It's an adventure playing here and it sometimes feels as though the people gathered are hanging on every note and brushstroke. Playing the Auckland Jazz and Blues club night is an absolute highlight of our calendar. We're very lucky to perform here in front of such a well-informed crowd."

Nick Atkinson's passion project Love Square brings together his two favourite musicians and Come Together band-mates drummer Alistair Deverick and multi-instrumentalist Finn Scholes. This trio will take you on a world-girdling jazz journey featuring compositions and classics inspired by the rhythms of Ethiopia and Nigeria along with the latin sounds of Peruvian Cumbia and Bolivian Chi-Cha. Expect reggae horns coupled to the intensity of an underground New York jazz club. They're bringing their latest set from their new album The Lighthouse so miss out!
