The Bridge City Jazzmen group was founded in 1962 by Don Bruce and John and Nick Wilcox. At the end of that year three new members joined the band, Bruce King (drums), Ray Pilkington (clarinet), and Neil McGough (trombone). During the late 1960s the band went into recess, but formed again in 1994 with Merv Thomas (trombone), Bernie Allen (clarinet), and Bob Ewing (double bass).
Now in 2016, we have Neville Grenfell (trumpet), Merv Thomas (trombone), Warwick Simpson (clarinet), Cameron McArthur (double bass), and Old Originals Bruce King (drums), and John Wilcox (piano). For our 6 September session at the Auckland Jazz and Blues Club we hope to have a guest accoustic guitarist, who will be introduced to you.
We look forward to bringing Club members the repertoire and style of the Chicago Dixieland years of Eddie Condon and his All Stars.
