German bassist and composer Olivier Holland has worked with countless national as well as international artists. His long music career, which began in 1989, has seen him migrate to NZ in 2002, infiltrate the NZ jazz scene and, teach at the University of Auckland Jazz Department since 2004. He still frequently travels across many ditches to perform and record with internationals. No less than a further four CD albums are on the “recordings-to-do-list” in the next 18 month; those will add to his discography which is already 23 albums strong.
2016: Oli has gathered a group of mega talented Jazz Jedi’s to form the group Jazz Attack. Despite their young age, these guys are no Padawan learners; the fourth is strong with them (as are all those other intervals)! Enabled by their off-the-charts midi-chlorians count in excess of 20 000, these guys will turn on the Worp-drive and explore new harmonic and polyrhythmic universes, where no man has gone before . . .
And you can come along, too! This group are playing at the Auckland Jazz and Blues Club on April 17.
On the menu will be Oli’s compositions as well as a couple of skilfully arranged jazz standards - they fit in no box, leave nothing unharmed. Be in for a night of power, dazzling complexity, and surprise!
May the fourth be with us all!
