Tessa Quale
Wellington based jazz vocalist Tessa Quayle, has performed extensively throughout New Zealand including major jazz festivals, Christmas Spectacular in the park and on the “Good Morning Show’ TV1. Tessa has also performed in Australia and across Europe including the 606 club and other jazz bars in London (2006), jazz bars in Paris, Barcelona and Scotland (2007).
Tessa’s voice has been described as having a “milky sparkle” who “scats and purrs” her own unique flavour of various jazz styles. Her repertoire is from Billy Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald right through to Diana Krall and other modern artists. From a mellow duo to a swinging quartet or larger group, easy listening to contemporary jazz styles, Tessa’s performances are always sophisticated.
While still in her 20s Tessa released her debut album ‘Whisper Not’ (2010) which has been described as an “engaging album” that “should put jazz in New Zealand back on the map” This album was a finalist in the New Zealand Jazz Album of the Year Awards for 2010. Tessa is also a vocal tutor and vocal ensemble director at the New Zealand School of Music in the Jazz programme.
