Hauraki Hot Seven

  • Point Chevalier RSA 1136 Great North Road Auckland, Auckland, 1022 New Zealand (map)

The Hauraki Hot Seven is the Hauraki Hot Six plus one.
The HHSix was formed to play what became probably the shortest lived residency in Auckland jazz history. An agreement with the management of an Eastern suburbs restaurant / bar, for what would be a once a month residency for one year ,resulted in two gigs before the establishment folded last year!
The HHSix has become the seven for this appearance at the Auck Jazz n Blues club, with the addition of Ron Coleman on piano.
The aim of the band is to play Dixieland jazz for their own enjoyment and that of their audience - plain and simple.
All the band members are well known on the Auckland scene.
They are -
The Hauraki Hot Seven
Lindsay Meech - cornet/ vocals ( co - leader)
Brian Kelly - trombone ( co- leader )
Chris Nielson - soprano and tenor saxophones
Ron Coleman - piano
Glyn Frewin - bass
Phillip Beatson - guitar
